Dangerous Houthi escalation: Masam announces the discovery of a women's bag rigged with an advanced mine in Taiz.

The Saudi-led project for mine clearance in Yemen, MASAM, revealed that Houthi militias have developed methods for camouflaging mines and explosive devices, in a dangerous escalation that confirms their insistence on targeting civilians.

The project said in a press release that its operations room in Yemen received a report of a suspected foreign object in the eastern region of Taiz Governorate, and immediately, the (33 Masam) team moved to the site.

He added, "A woman's cosmetic bag was discovered containing a single mine, a newly developed pedal attached to the top inner lid of the bag, a battery, and an electric detonator."

Brigadier General Arif Al-Qahtani, the project supervisor in Taiz Governorate, explained that the team dismantled and secured the explosive device, noting that it represents a new shift in the Houthi targeting of Yemeni women.

He said, "This device is a local product developed in the Houthi militia's laboratories, which have never stopped working on developing anything that would kill the largest possible number of civilians."

Regarding the type of mine discovered, Al-Qahtani said, "It operates using a push-pull system," adding, "The pedal found facilitates the detonation process when the bag lid is opened, closed, or pressed, which means the death of anyone trying to discover the bag's contents."

The leader of Team 33 Masam called on all citizens, both male and female, to exercise caution when finding any strange or unknown objects in the streets and roads.

He pointed out that what was discovered today is an indication of a shift in the usual camouflage strategy of these criminal militias, which have shown no regard for humanitarian or moral considerations, nor the sanctity of the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan, which every Muslim is keen to exploit to draw closer to God. They have begun diversifying their tools of killing and destruction, targeting civilians.
