FAO begins field survey to establish projects in the agricultural and fisheries sectors in Socotra

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said on Wednesday that its team conducted a field survey in the southern and western regions of the Socotra Archipelago Governorate, located on the Indian Ocean, to study the possibilities of establishing development projects in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

This step comes within the framework of the organization's preparations to begin implementing projects aimed at enhancing the ability of these sectors to support the local economy and improve the livelihood of the population, according to Saba Agency.

The project to be established on the island includes the establishment of ice factories in the city of Qalansiyah and the Badhol area, in addition to building a frankincense center and a veterinary center in the capital, Hadiboh.

According to the agency, work on these projects is expected to begin early next year.

On Wednesday, Socotra Governor, Raafat Al-Thaqali, discussed with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) team headed by Adel Al-Bukhish the organization’s interventions to enhance the capacity of the fishing and agricultural sectors in the archipelago.

The organization focuses on enhancing stability in agricultural and fisheries activities through these projects that aim to develop local infrastructure and provide technical and logistical support, thus contributing to improving local production and meeting the needs of the community in Socotra.
