Armed men from the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance detained dozens of oil tankers leaving PetroMasila and heading to the oil company in the governorate, as part of its escalatory steps to demand the implementation of its demands.
The spokesman for the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance, Al-Kaash Saeed Al-Saidi, told Yemen Shabab Net that dozens of locomotives were detained yesterday and today in the plateau, which the PetroMasila company gives to the oil company in the governorate at a subsidized price.
Al-Saeedi added that locomotives designated for electricity were allowed to pass without being intercepted, noting that shipments that did not go to the benefit of the people were detained, he said.
He explained that PetroMasila gives the oil company dozens of locomotives daily at a subsidized price, and that the oil company sells these shipments to citizens at double prices.
According to the spokesman for the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance, the money from these shipments, which are sold to citizens at double prices, goes into the pockets of those he described as “corrupt and influential,” as he put it.
On Friday, the Hadhramaut tribes installed a number of armed points along the plateau (the oil field area), with the aim of preventing the passage of oil tankers and controlling oil installations, after the deadline set for the Presidential Council and the government to implement their demands expired.
Last Wednesday, the tribal alliance set out a set of demands in a meeting held in the Hadhramaut Plateau, and threatened to "seize the land and wealth" if the Leadership Council and the government did not respond to its demands within 48 hours.
The alliance called on the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, to recognize the right of Hadhramaut and to activate the role of effective and true partnership represented in the inclusive Hadhramaut Conference, like other parties participating in the comprehensive settlement in the country.
The alliance warned against undertaking any action with Hadhramaut oil, exporting it, or marketing it except after confirming the status of Hadhramaut and guaranteeing its rights to the satisfaction of its people, stressing the implementation of the decisions taken by the comprehensive Hadhramaut Conference issued on July 13, 2024 (which are demands related to services and administrative affairs in the governorate).
The tribal alliance said, "The current oil reserve in the tanks of the port of Dabbah and Masila is one of Hadhramaut's rights, and we will not give it up, provided that its full value is used to purchase electrical energy for Hadhramaut."
This escalation coincided with the visit of the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, who left for Saudi Arabia today, while the tribes continued to threaten with escalatory steps to meet their demands.
