The Saawan area in the capital Sana'a witnessed a horrific crime, where a workshop worker brutally murdered an 85-year-old woman and her two grandchildren inside their home, in a crime that shook Yemeni society.

Local sources reported that the woman asked the perpetrator, who works in a nearby workshop, to fix the door of her room. However, he took advantage of entering the house to kill her with successive blows to the head with a hammer, which led to her immediate death. He also killed her two young grandchildren; he killed one of them with a hammer blow, while he finished off the other by trampling him on the chest and neck until he died.

According to the sources, the perpetrator was treated kindly by the family, who provided him with food and clothes, but he took advantage of his entry into the house and tried to steal the victims' jewelry, but he failed to escape after breaking the key to the house door while committing the crime. When the neighbors intervened, he was found hiding under the bed with the stolen goods in his possession.

The crime sparked widespread anger in the community, especially since the grandmother was known for her generosity, and had repeatedly helped the perpetrator by providing him with food and clothing, while the children’s father, expatriate Malik Mahdi Muhammad Qaid al-Jundabi, was outside the country working in Saudi Arabia.

Citizens expressed their shock and condemnation of this heinous crime, demanding a speedy trial of the perpetrator and just retribution, so that this incident would serve as a lesson to all who threaten the security and safety of innocent people.
