Houthi militia begins expanding one of its main prisons in Ibb Governorate, central Yemen

The terrorist Houthi militia has begun expanding one of its main prisons in the center of Ibb Governorate (central Yemen), in light of the continuation of the widespread kidnapping campaigns against the people of the governorate.

Informed sources told "Yemeni Youth Net" that the Houthi militia recently began building new buildings in the Security and Intelligence Prison (Political Security) in the city of Ibb, to expand the detention centers of the notorious security apparatus.

Recent photos of the headquarters showed the militia building a new multi-storey building inside the headquarters courtyard.

The Security and Intelligence Detention Center (Political Security) in Ibb is considered one of the worst Houthi detention centers in the country, according to the classifications of a number of human rights organizations. The Houthi militia has used it since the beginning of its coup as a private prison for opponents of the coup, and has practiced the most heinous types of torture against the abductees inside it, causing the death of a number of them and causing others to suffer permanent physical and psychological disabilities.

This comes at a time when the militia continues its extensive kidnapping campaigns against the people of Ibb Governorate, who are crowded into the militia’s prisons and detention centers in the governorate, which are estimated at 91 official, secret and private prisons, according to a previous report by the Yemeni Organization for Prisoners and Abductees.

In August 2023, the terrorist Houthi militia approved the construction of a new central prison in the Shaban area, south of Ibb Governorate, despite the expansion operations that affected the central prison in the governorate, which includes hundreds of prisoners and abductees, in order to accommodate the large numbers of inmates and abductees.

It is noteworthy that the terrorist Houthi militia, since its control of the governorate in the fall of 2024 AD, has kidnapped thousands of civilians and committed serious crimes and widespread torture against them, which led to the death of many of them.
