Morocco: Ready to contribute to any international efforts to help the Yemeni government

Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita expressed, on Friday, the Kingdom's permanent readiness to contribute to any international efforts to help the legitimate Yemeni government meet the humanitarian needs of its people.

This came in a speech during a press conference with his Yemeni counterpart, Shaye Mohsen Al-Zindani, following the sixth session of the joint committee between the two countries, in Rabat, some details of which were reported by the official Moroccan News Agency.

Bourita reiterated "the Kingdom's firm position in supporting the Presidential Leadership Council as the legitimate authority in Yemen."

He added, "The solution to the Yemeni crisis is through a permanent political solution that preserves Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity and is based on respecting Security Council resolutions and the outcomes of the Yemeni National Dialogue."

Bourita stressed that any solution for Yemen "must respect the will of the Yemenis, especially the legitimate authorities in the country," considering that regional and international parties should "help the Yemenis and not replace them in finding a solution to their problems."

The Moroccan Foreign Minister also expressed his country's rejection of Iranian support for the Houthis, warning that "this support threatens Yemen's sovereignty, territorial integrity and stability."

Bourita expressed Morocco's permanent readiness to contribute to any international efforts to help the legitimate Yemeni government meet the humanitarian needs of its people.

In this context, Bourita and Al-Zindani signed 7 agreements and memoranda of understanding in several fields to enhance cooperation between the two countries, on the sidelines of the sixth session of the joint committee between the two countries in Rabat.

The agreements included the fields of (higher education, technical education, water resources, infrastructure in the field of roads and ports, as well as an agreement between the two countries' ministries of interior, meteorology and climatology), according to the Yemeni News Agency "Saba".

Under these agreements and executive programmes, the Moroccan side increased the grants provided to Yemen to 150 scholarships in the field of higher education, technical and vocational education, technology exchange, and capacity development for human resources and infrastructure for roads and ports.

It also provides for encouraging the establishment of a partnership between the two countries in this field, in addition to enhancing cooperation, coordination and the exchange of training courses in other sectors covered by the agreements.

During the signing ceremony, Minister Al-Zindani reviewed the latest developments on the national and regional scene, and the development challenges facing the Yemeni government, as a result of the economic crisis imposed by the Houthi militias by targeting oil export platforms, and their rejection of all regional and international initiatives aimed at ending the coup and resolving the Yemeni crisis.

He also touched on the decision to classify the Houthi militias as a foreign terrorist organization by the United States of America and a number of other countries, in addition to discussing a number of regional and international issues and developments.

The Yemeni Foreign Minister arrived in Morocco on Thursday, on an indefinite visit.
