2025 Africa Cup of Nations draw: Balanced groups

The draw for the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations "Morocco 2025" resulted in strong and anticipated confrontations in the group stage for the participating Arab teams.

The draw was held on Monday evening at the Mohammed V National Theater in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, for the tournament, which will start on December 21, 2025 and continue until January 18, 2026.

The Moroccan national team will face its counterpart, the Comoros national team, in the opening of the anticipated major tournament, while the draw resulted in anticipated confrontations in the group stage, most notably the match between Morocco and Mali in Group One and the match between Egypt and South Africa in Group Two.

While the Tunisian team will clash with Nigeria in Group Three, the Ivorian team, the title holder, will play an anticipated summit match against its Cameroonian counterpart in Group Six.

Following the draw, the coach of the Moroccan national team, Walid Regragui, said that the draw was balanced for all teams. Regarding the draw for the Atlas Lions, he confirmed that it is not an easy group and includes strong teams, especially the Comoros Islands team.

Former Egyptian national team star Ahmed Hassan said that the Egyptian national team's group includes two strong teams, South Africa and Angola, while Egyptian goalkeeping star Essam El-Hadary indicated that the Egyptian national team's group is a balanced group.
