SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties strongly condemned the kidnapping of journalist Fahmi Al-Alimi by the Transitional Council forces, and called on the authorities in Aden to quickly release him unconditionally.
The organization (based in Geneva) said in a statement that forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council arrested journalist Fahmi Al-Alimi, on Thursday, July 18, while he was traveling in his car on a street in the city, in an incident that calls for grave concern and highlights the repressive measures targeting journalists and activists in the city. Yemen, which threatens basic freedoms and undermines human rights.
In its statement, the organization considered that what the Security Belt forces did amounted to the crime of arbitrary arrest and enforced disappearance.
SAM stressed that the kidnapping of journalist Al-Alimi is a dangerous measure that undermines human rights, threatens basic freedoms, and creates a state of terror among society, and points out that the arrest procedures are in violation of national laws that emphasize that detention must be carried out according to an official warrant and based on a clear and unambiguous charge. .
The organization called on the authorities in Aden to stop harassing journalists and activists and to provide a suitable climate for journalistic work, ensuring freedom of expression and human rights.
SAM called on the international community and human rights organizations to put pressure on the authorities in Aden to ensure the immediate release of journalist Fahmi Al-Alimi, and to protect the rights of journalists and activists in Yemen.
