An official in the localities of Ibb Governorate (central Yemen) survived an assassination attempt, following an armed ambush set up by unknown persons, amid a tribal conflict fueled by the terrorist Houthi militia in one of the governorate’s towns.

Local sources said that the Secretary-General of the Local Council of Al-Udayn District, Sheikh Abdul-Wahid Al-Shahari, was subjected to an armed ambush yesterday, Saturday, in the Al-Hajjaj area at the Wadi Al-Dour junction in Al-Udayn District, west of Ibb Governorate.

The sources added that Sheikh Al-Shahari's car was subjected to a hail of bullets, which resulted in one of his companions being shot and subsequently transferred to one of the city's hospitals for treatment.

The sources suggested that the incident was linked to the tribal conflict between the Al-Shahari family on the one hand and the Al-Damini and Al-Wasili families on the other hand, in the Tha’ub area in the Khabbaz district of the Al-Udayn directorate.

It is noteworthy that in late 2023, the militia pursued Al-Shahari due to tribal conflict and tried to kidnap him, but the support of his tribesmen thwarted those attempts.

During the last few weeks, three people were killed and injured after being shot by unknown assailants in the same area.

In late March 2024, Sheikh Hamid Amin Ahmed Al-Shahari was subjected to a similar ambush by unknown persons due to the same conflict, which led to his death.

The Khabbaz district, affiliated with the Al-Udain directorate, has been witnessing an armed conflict fueled by the Houthi militia for more than two years, in which dozens of people have been killed and wounded on both sides of the conflict, in addition to damage to a large number of homes and properties.
