The terrorist Houthi militia imposed new fees on merchants in the city of Ibb (central Yemen), while it demanded others to suddenly vacate their shops rented from the Awqaf Office.
Informed sources said that the Houthi militia forced a large number of merchants in the city of Ibb to pay millions in advance of taxes for the current year 2025, which are supposed to be collected after the end of the year.
The sources added that the militia forced the merchants to pay the amounts that were supposed to be estimated according to the year-end profits, and threatened those who refused with imprisonment.
A number of merchants expressed surprise at these arbitrary measures, which come amid an unprecedented recession in the governorate.
In addition, the governorate’s Awqaf office, affiliated with the militia, notified a number of tenants in one of the Awqaf buildings in Al-Mashna District to quickly vacate their shops.
According to a document - seen by Yemen Youth Net - the Al-Mashna Endowments Office gave the owners of the shops in the "Upper Dhahabiya" building a month to vacate the shops and threatened to confront them if they did not comply.
The document indicated that the Awqaf Office seeks to maintain the building and invest it as a commercial mall.
In recent years, the terrorist Houthi militia in Ibb Governorate has been restricting local tenants from the endowments, while in return it has rented shops and large properties belonging to the endowments to investors and influential people coming from the northern governorates, at low prices.
