Hadramout: Yemen Youth Net - Special
Today, Sunday, security forces dispersed a protest activity by fishermen from Shihr in front of Al-Rayyan Airport in Hadhramaut Governorate (eastern Yemen) and detained a number of them in the Ghayl Bawazir Police Station.
Fishermen told "Yemeni Youth Net" that dozens of them tried to hold a protest in front of Al-Rayyan Airport in Al-Mukalla, to denounce the re-closure of the sea in front of them and prevent them from fishing, but security forces from the Ghayl Bawazir Directorate came to the protest site and dispersed them by force.
The fishermen added that the security force forcibly took a number of fishermen from the demonstration site and transferred them to the Security Department of Ghayl Bawazir Directorate.
The fishermen explained that they were interrogated and that they are still detained in the security department of the directorate until now.
The fishermen confirmed that the directorate's security department refused to release them until the governorate's security department issued instructions to do so, they claimed.
The fishermen of Shihr had stormed the sea by force and returned to work last November, after years of a ban imposed by the Emirati forces stationed at Al Rayyan Airport, under security pretexts, but they were later attacked and prevented from fishing again.
According to the fishermen, the sea was closed after an agreement with a group of fishermen, in exchange for granting them compensation estimated at about 600 Saudi riyals per month, and excluding dozens of fishermen from the compensation lists.
