A recent government report revealed that more than 16,400 displaced people in Ma'rib Governorate (eastern Yemen) were forced to leave their homes and take refuge in displacement camps in the governorate since the beginning of this year.
The Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps in Marib Governorate said in its “Displacement and Departure Tracking” report for November that its information provider team monitored the displacement of 88 families, representing (534 individuals), from their rented homes in the governorate to displacement camps during last November.
She explained that the total number of families displaced from their homes to displacement camps since the beginning of the year until the end of last November amounted to 2,566 families consisting of 16,411 people.
She pointed out that the reasons for the displacement of these families for the second time are due to their deteriorating economic conditions as a result of the crisis the country is going through, the lack of sustainable sources of income for them, and the threats of eviction due to their inability to pay the accumulated rents, in addition to the weak humanitarian response and the lack of cash assistance projects allocated to displaced families in rented homes.
The Executive Unit called on humanitarian partners to quickly meet the needs of displaced families who were forced to seek refuge in camps, and to provide livelihood projects to secure a sustainable source of income for them, in addition to meeting and supporting cash assistance projects to cover the needs of families who are still in their rented homes and are threatened with eviction.
