The Socotra National Conference announced its rejection of the recent increase imposed by the Emirati company ADNOC on the prices of petroleum derivatives and domestic gas in the archipelago.

The conference confirmed, in a statement issued on Tuesday, that the governorate witnessed "successive price increases in petroleum derivatives by ADNOC, which led to a doubling of the prices of all goods and services, amid the competent authorities' disregard for the suffering of citizens."

The conference called on the people of Socotra, and the political and social components, to "stand together to drop the price increase and defend their legitimate rights."

He also called on the government to quickly intervene to provide oil derivatives at fair prices similar to those in effect in the liberated governorates, and to prevent "unjust monopoly."

The conference held the local authority responsible for the aggravation of the crisis, calling on it to play its role in obligating ADNOC to set fair prices in line with prices in the rest of the liberated governorates.

Earlier on Tuesday, Socotra Governor's Deputy, Dr. Issa Muslim, revealed:The UAE's ADNOC station raised the price of a 20-litre petrol can to 40,000 riyals, and raised the price of a large gas cylinder to 51,000 riyals, and 25,500 for a small cylinder.

Undersecretary Muslim stressed the need for the local authority to continue communicating seriously with the presidency and the government to oblige the oil company and the national company to open their branches in the governorate and open the way for investors to alleviate the suffering of our people and prevent the exacerbation of these crises.

The Emirati company "ADNOC" has monopolized the sale of oil derivatives in Socotra since the forces of the UAE-backed Transitional Council took control of the archipelago in June 2020, amid complaints from citizens about the company's manipulation of prices and the collusion of local authorities with the company.
