The Yemeni Ministry of Public Health and Population announced on Tuesday that it is preparing to implement a house-to-house cholera vaccination campaign during the period from December 7 to 12, in cooperation with health sector partners.

Minister of Public Health Dr. Qasim Buhaibeh confirmed in a press statement that the ministry has completed all the technical arrangements necessary for the success of the campaign, noting that the campaign will target more than three million people aged one year and above in six governorates distributed over 34 directorates and will be implemented by more than 7,000 health personnel.

The Minister of Health pointed out that vaccination is the best solution to prevent diseases and achieve the necessary immunity, calling on social, professional and religious activities to contribute effectively to the success of the vaccination campaign against cholera.

In late November, the World Health Organization said Yemen was facing an outbreak of vaccine-preventable diseases, including vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2, acute watery diarrhea, cholera, measles, diphtheria, malaria, and dengue fever.

The UN organization added in a statement that "during the period in which the cholera outbreak began in March 2024 until the end of September 2024, 204,000 suspected cases and 710 deaths were reported."

She pointed out that Yemen is facing a protracted emergency of the third level, which is the highest level of health emergency for the World Health Organization.
