Member of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, confirmed on Monday that the US decision to classify the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization is a legal and economic tool to isolate it and dry up its sources of funding.
This came during a meeting with the US Ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, to discuss various developments and efforts to establish peace in Yemen, according to the Yemeni News Agency "Saba".
Al-Alimi praised the US administration's decision to classify the Houthi militia as a foreign terrorist organization, as an executive decision that will help dry up the militia's sources of funding and restrict many of its terrorist activities internally and externally, noting that it is a legal and economic tool to isolate Iran's terrorist arms in the region.
He pointed out that the US administration's decision is deserved against terrorist militias that have spread corruption and have worked and are working to destabilize national and global security, stressing the importance of the decision and the necessity of joint work between the Yemeni and US governments in this matter.
The member of the Leadership Council also expressed the condemnation of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government for the kidnapping of a large number of employees of United Nations agencies, international and local non-governmental organizations, and a number of workers in embassies in Sana'a by the terrorist Houthi militias, supported by the Iranian regime.
He stressed the need to exert more pressure to immediately and unconditionally release those who were detained last Thursday, as well as those kidnapped since 2021 and 2024 and all detainees.
Al-Alimi said, "The alignment of some UN agencies and organizations with the Houthi militias over the past years in order to facilitate the management of the humanitarian file has made them vulnerable to blackmail by the militias."
He stressed that the temporary capital, Aden, and all the liberated governorates are ready to receive all international and regional agencies and organizations, calling on all organizations to move their headquarters and work there, and they will receive all care and freedom of work.
For his part, the US Ambassador stressed that the US administration's decision comes from its awareness of the threat posed by the actions of the Houthi militias to the security and stability of the region and the world.
Fagin renewed his country's support for all efforts made to achieve lasting peace in Yemen. He also renewed his country's position in support of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, and the security, unity and stability of Yemen.
