The Yemeni Ministry of Interior announced, on Wednesday, the arrest of two elements working for the Houthi militia while they were trying to infiltrate Yemen after coming from Iran via the sea in the east of the country.
The Security Media Center said that the Minister of Interior, Major General Ibrahim Haydan, praised, during a call with the Director of Al Mahrah Police, Brigadier General Mufti Samouda, the readiness of the security services in the governorate, stressing the importance of enhancing security efforts.
The Minister of Interior praised the efforts of the security forces in arresting two sailors while they were trying to infiltrate Yemen from Iran, as initial investigations revealed that the accused were working for the Houthi militias.
According to the statement, the two elements admitted that they were transporting shipments of prohibited materials through Djibouti and from there to the port of Mokha, as part of smuggling activities run by the militias with Iranian funding and support.
Major General Haidan stressed the need to tighten control over seaports and enhance inspection operations, pointing out the importance of the work of the security services in implementing plans aimed at combating smuggling and confronting all attempts aimed at destabilizing security and stability.
In turn, Brigadier Samouda stressed that the Mahra Police are working to enhance security readiness and take all measures to prevent any attempts that would harm the security and stability of the governorate.
He pointed out that the seized items are currently undergoing the necessary legal procedures in preparation for referring them to the competent authorities.
