Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak called for dealing with the Yemeni crisis from a comprehensive perspective, political, security and economic, not just humanitarian. He considered Trump's decision regarding the Houthis a "clear message."
He said in an interview with Alhurra TV, "Yemen, with its important location, must be dealt with at a strategic level on a security, military, economic and political basis, and not just as a humanitarian tragedy."
Bin Mubarak pointed out, "Therefore, we want a more comprehensive approach to the Yemeni crisis by the United States of America, which is the largest humanitarian supporter of Yemen for Western countries," noting, "We want greater pressure and direct dealing with the Yemeni government and economic and political empowerment."
Prime Minister Ben Mubarak praised US President Donald Trump's decision to re-designate the Houthi group as a terrorist group. He said, "The lack of pressure on the Houthis has prolonged the crisis in Yemen for more than 10 years."
I consider that re-listing the Houthis on the terrorist lists is a "step in the right direction" and sends a "very clear and important message" from the international community and the United States to pressure them.
On Wednesday, Trump signed an executive order reclassifying the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen as a "foreign terrorist organization," having previously issued the same decision at the end of his first term in 2020.
But after taking office in 2021, former US President Joe Biden canceled this classification, in response to the concerns of relief organizations that they would be forced to leave Yemen under this classification, considering that they are obligated to deal with the Houthis who control large areas of the country, including the capital, Sanaa.
