The United States is expanding its deployment of B-2 Spirit strategic bombers to Diego Garcia, a key military site in the Indian Ocean, in a sign of potential airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, according to a report by the American website TWZ.
US strikes on the Houthis, who threaten maritime trade, have entered their tenth day with no sign of abating. These strikes are part of a campaign waged by US President Donald Trump against the rebel group, while he also seeks to pressure Iran, the Houthis' main backer.
According to TWZ , more than 30% of the US Air Force's B-20 bombers, all of which are based at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, have been dispatched to Diego Garcia.
"The B-2 Spirit has arrived at Hickam Air Force Base," Air Force Command told TWZ in response to questions about the in-flight emergency and recent movements of B-2s in the broader Indo-Pacific region.
"US Strategic Command, its components, and subordinate units routinely conduct global operations in coordination with other combatant commands and participating US government agencies to deter, detect, and, when necessary, defeat strategic attacks against the United States and its allies," US Strategic Command (AFGSC) added.
"To maintain operational security, we do not discuss details of training or operations," she added.
