A citizen was killed on Monday when a landmine planted by the terrorist Houthi militia exploded south of Al Hudaydah Governorate, western Yemen.
The Yemeni Mine Observatory said that citizen Mahmoud Mohammed Abkar, in his forties, was killed by a mine explosion while working in the Al-Shajan area of Al-Durayhimi District, south of Al-Hodeidah Governorate.
In mid-February, Yemeni Minister of Legal Affairs and Human Rights, Ahmed Arman, stated that "the number of victims of Houthi mines since the beginning of the Houthi coup until the end of 2024 has reached 4,501 dead and 5,083 injured."
Arman added in press statements that Taiz governorate topped the list of Houthi mine casualties with 964, followed by Hodeidah with 835, Al Jawf with 505, Al Bayda with 409, and Marib ranked fifth with 400.
The United Nations classifies Yemen as one of the most landmine-contaminated countries in the world, ranking third among the countries most affected by landmines and explosive remnants of war.
