Sources revealed that the round of negotiations between the government and the Houthis in Muscat was “purely based on Saudi desire,” and ended today, Saturday, without announcing a clear agreement, about a week after it began under UN auspices.
Private sources told "Yemen Shabab", "The issue of Saudi prisoners, as well as Sudanese soldiers within the Arab coalition forces, was very present during the negotiations, which were attended by Saudi representatives."
She added, "The most important thing about this tour was the visit of a Saudi military delegation to Sana'a, which was able to visit the seven Saudi prisoners, including two pilots."
The sources indicated, "The Saudis were afraid that the two pilots were not alive after they went missing in Houthi-controlled areas in the Yemeni Al-Jawf Governorate when their plane crashed more than 4 years ago, and their fate was not disclosed by the Houthis."
In mid-February 2020, coalition spokesman Colonel Turki Al-Maliki announced the downing of a Tornado fighter plane belonging to the Saudi Air Force while it was carrying out a close air support mission for units of the Yemeni National Army. He did not explain at the time the cause of the plane crash or the fate of its crew.
The sources stated, "The plane crew was then captured by the Houthis, and they were used as an important negotiating card." During the past rounds of negotiations between the delegations of the Yemeni government and the Houthis, Saudi representatives were present to negotiate.
It was announced on Saturday evening that the round of negotiations in the Omani capital, Muscat, between the government and the Houthi militia regarding prisoners and abductees had ended without reaching a clear agreement, and the government delegation accused the Houthis of sabotaging the round.
A member of the government delegation, Majed Fadhail, accused the Houthi militias of thwarting any exchange in this round and said, "They do not give the prisoners and their families any weight," as he put it.
