Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak directed, on Saturday, to cancel any measures targeting the activities of the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate, and to take into account the historical symbolism of this venerable professional union entity that was founded in 1976.

In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), Bin Mubarak stressed the government's respect and support for union and civil work, and its firm position in protecting freedoms, including freedom of expression, and rejecting any form of restriction on press freedoms.

He stressed that all ministries and government agencies must commit to protecting freedom of expression and providing information to journalists and media professionals so that they can play their role in supporting the government's efforts and directing constructive criticism that helps to reform and correct imbalances.

He pointed out that combating corruption is a priority in the government's work, and the fourth authority is an important part of the awareness battle in this file, and a basic partner in performing national duties and entitlements to serve citizens, expressing his hope that journalists and media professionals will help in providing constructive, objective criticism based on the public interest.

The Prime Minister praised the national role of free journalists and media professionals in the battle to complete the restoration of the state and end the Iranian-backed Houthi coup, despite the repression, abuse and violations they were subjected to by the terrorist Houthi militia, including killing, kidnapping and enforced disappearance.

He stressed the continuation of their role in shedding light on the extent of the suffering and tragedy caused by the Houthi militia coup, putting an end to the impunity of its leaders for the crimes they commit against the fourth estate and the Yemeni people, and opposing its racist and sectarian discourse that is alien to Yemeni society.

Two weeks ago, the Social Affairs and Labor Office in Aden issued a decision to suspend the activities of the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate, on the pretext of not responding to the request to move its headquarters to the temporary capital, Aden.
