The Yemeni government affirmed its deep commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and enhancing social solidarity and community integration, as part of its efforts to implement the Copenhagen Declaration and the Programme of Action of the World Summit for Social Development, along with the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan.

This came in the statement delivered by Yemen's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, today before the sixty-third session of the Commission for Social Development at the United Nations headquarters in New York, according to Saba Agency.

In his speech, Ambassador Al-Saadi stressed that achieving sustainable social development requires addressing the root causes of poverty, ensuring equal economic opportunities and promoting basic human rights for all.

He pointed out that the world is still far from achieving the ambitious goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan, especially in the least developed countries, including Yemen, which is suffering from a multidimensional crisis due to the coup of the terrorist Houthi militias and its effects on the aspirations of the Yemeni people.

The Ambassador stressed that the Yemeni government, despite the major challenges it faces, continues its efforts to restore state institutions, as it has implemented economic and administrative reforms aimed at supporting the national economy. These reforms focus on strengthening the role of the private sector and involving it in the sustainable development process, which contributes to expanding the production base, diversifying sources of income, and supporting small and micro-enterprises, including women and youth projects in rural areas.

He also pointed out that the government looks forward to the Second World Summit for Social Development scheduled in Doha at the end of this year, as an important opportunity to enhance international consensus on equitable access to basic services and economic opportunities. The summit will contribute to intensifying investment in human capacity development to achieve comprehensive development, including improving livelihoods and raising household income levels.

At the end of his speech, Ambassador Al-Saadi reiterated the Yemeni government's emphasis on continuing efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals and implement the outcomes of the World Summit for Social Development 2025, which focus on eradicating poverty and promoting social inclusion. He called on the international community to support national efforts to achieve these goals, in order to build more just and sustainable societies.
