Yemen welcomes Washington's announcement that the Houthi militias' classification as a terrorist organization has entered into force

The Yemeni government welcomed, on Tuesday, the US State Department’s announcement that the Houthi terrorist militias’ classification as a Foreign Terrorist Organization ( FTO ) has come into effect under Executive Order 14175 issued by US President Donald Trump.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said, "This decision represents an important step to confront the threats posed by these terrorist militias supported by the Iranian regime, whose terrorist actions have targeted civilians and infrastructure in Yemen and neighboring countries, as well as their targeting of commercial ships in the Red Sea in a continuing threat to the security and safety of navigation and international trade routes."

The statement affirmed the Yemeni government's full support for this classification, considering the decision an effective tool to limit material and financial support for these terrorist militias.

He renewed the government's call for the international community to take similar steps to dry up the sources of funding for the Houthis, arm them, and enhance efforts aimed at restoring stability and establishing peace in Yemen.

He pointed out that Yemen has long suffered from the ravages of war and Iranian interference through these militias, and sees this decision as a strengthening of the partnership with the United States and its allies in confronting terrorism, and hopes that it will contribute to blocking the path to activities that threaten the security of its citizens, the region, and global maritime trade.

The statement expressed the Yemeni government's thanks to the United States for its firm commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni people in their quest to achieve peace, stressing the government's readiness to fully cooperate with international partners to ensure the implementation of this decision in a manner that serves the interests of the Yemeni people and enhances peace and security in the region.

Earlier today, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Washington had officially re-listed the Houthi group in Yemen as a foreign terrorist organization, stressing that Washington "will not tolerate any country dealing with terrorist organizations like the Houthis under the guise of legitimate business activities."
