Kuwait has provided a grant of $1.2 million to support a project to rehabilitate and maintain homes for displaced persons in Yemen, one of seven previous projects it has funded through the UNHCR.

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed a grant agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The Kuwait Fund stated that "total contributions to UNHCR since 2016 have amounted to approximately $24 million to fund seven projects."

The Fund stated in a press release, "The project targets returning displaced persons and supports the self-reliance of returning families by providing them with the necessary support in the form of materials, equipment, and labor costs to rehabilitate their homes damaged by the ongoing conflict in Yemen."

The number of direct beneficiaries of the project's components is estimated at approximately 670 families. Acting Director General of the Fund, Walid Al-Bahar, said, "The signing of this agreement reflects Kuwait's commitment, represented by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, to stand by the Yemeni people."

For her part, the UNHCR Representative in Kuwait, Nisreen Rabian, said, "Yemen continues to face one of the most complex humanitarian crises in the world, with more than four million people displaced."

She noted that approximately 6.7 million people, 40 percent of whom are internally displaced, lack adequate housing, indicating that many returnees face difficult living conditions in damaged or destroyed homes, exposing them to protection risks and repeated displacement.
