The effectiveness of the eye hospital in Ma’rib
The Specialized Hospital for Ophthalmology and Surgery in Ma’rib Governorate said that it has provided more than 600,000 free treatment services to eye patients since the beginning of its operation on October 10, 2019.
The Specialized Hospital for Ophthalmology and Surgery is a charitable hospital run by the International Sight Foundation, with full funding from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.
The Managing Director of the Sight Foundation, Yemen Sector, Hossam Al-Din Awad, said during an event marking five years that the hospital provided 608,642 free treatment services to eye patients from October 10, 2019 until July 28, 2024.
“Awad” indicated that the beneficiaries of the hospital’s services during this period amounted to more than 600,000 patients from the displaced, the host community in the governorate, and visitors from neighboring governorates.
He added that the hospital performed 12,118 free surgeries for eye patients to restore sight, and dispensed free medications to 251,43 beneficiaries, and 98,135 medical glasses and sunglasses, while the laboratory provided 36,854 services, 187,400 diagnostic devices, and private imaging clinics. He continued: “We have 28 hospitals around the world, and among them there is no hospital that provides free services except in Marib, with generous support and funding from the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid and the cooperation of the local authority.”
In the event, which was held under the slogan “Five Years of Giving” and was attended by a number of academics and doctors, “the Undersecretary of Ma’rib Governorate, Dr. Abd Rabbuh Muftah, called on the King Salman Center to expand services until it reaches the treatment of the cornea and retina.”
The agent praised “the achievements of the specialized hospital, which contributed to alleviating the suffering of many patients and limiting their movements within Yemen and travel abroad for treatment.”
He pointed out that Marib received large numbers of Yemenis, and that the presence of specialized health centers contributed to alleviating the suffering of many.
