Paris Saint-Germain defeated Liverpool 4-1 on penalties at Anfield after the French capital club won 1-0 after extra time, advancing to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
After the regular time ended with Saint-Germain winning with a goal scored by Ousmane Dembele (12), the two teams went to two extra halves where the score remained the same, before the French capital team decided the qualification card through penalty kicks (4-1) after the Uruguayan Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones missed their kicks, which were saved by the brilliant Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Paris Saint-Germain will face the winner between Belgian side Club Bruges and English side Aston Villa in the quarter-finals, following what was described as an undeserved defeat in the first leg at home. The French side dominated the match and wasted a barrage of chances, before substitute Harvey Elliott scored a dramatic late winner to give Liverpool the win.

At Anfield, the match seemed to have an attacking slant from its first moments, as the first opportunity came in favour of the home team when the Egyptian Mohamed Salah shot a ball that bounced off the foot of the Portuguese defender Nuno Mendes before passing over the crossbar (5).
Salah repeated his efforts to give his team a valuable lead after he advanced on the right side before shooting from the edge of the area, the ball passed close to the goal (6).
And Saint-Germain struck hard minutes later when Dembele scored the opening goal for his team against the run of play, after exchanging the ball with Bradley Barcola before the former Barcelona player was alone with the Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker, the star of the first leg, but this time he was unable to stop Dembele’s attempt, which he followed up in two attempts (12).
Barcola almost doubled his team's lead when Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia put him in a one-on-one, but Alisson came out of his goal to prevent any danger (17).

The fast pace of the match continued as the Portuguese Diogo Jota missed an opportunity to equalize the score with a header that went very close to the goal (19).
The series of wasted opportunities was repeated when Dembele was alone with Alisson, but the latter remained on the lookout by choosing the right time to leave his goal (32).
Once again, Saint-Germain found spaces in Liverpool's defence to exploit, so Kvaratskhelia shot the ball towards the top corner, but it bounced off the foot of the Dutchman Ryan Gravenberch into a corner (35).
The match remained as intense as ever during the second half, and Anfield was on fire when Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai scored, but the referee quickly raised the offside flag on Colombian Luis Diaz, who started the attack (55).
This disallowed goal raised the enthusiasm of the Liverpool players who continued to launch attacks, and the French capital team was lucky to keep a clean sheet after the Ecuadorian defender, Pacho, pushed away Szoboszlai’s powerful shot at the last moment to a corner (57), before the Italian goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, saved Diaz’s header (58).

Saint-Germain's defense remained steadfast against Liverpool's attacks after Kvaratskhelia cleared Salah's shot off the goal line (62).
The post prevented the Reds from scoring the equaliser, and thus qualifying, after a header hit the ground and then the post from substitute Jarrell Quansah (79).
The pace of the match slowed down a bit in the final minutes as each team feared the other, but Liverpool almost did it had it not been for Donnarumma's continued brilliance, as he blocked Diaz and Salah's attempts twice (83).
Liverpool fans held their breath when Kvaratskhelia came close to snatching the qualifying goal, but his curved shot went wide of the goal (87).
Neither team managed to score during extra time, forcing the match to go to penalty kicks. Donnarumma once again excelled, saving penalties from Nunez and Curtis Jones, while PSG scored all four of their kicks.
