The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Major General Hossein Salami, justified today, Thursday, the humiliating defeat suffered by his forces and the forces of the Assad regime in Syria, due to the failure of the Syrian regime forces to confront the opposition forces that took control of the entire country within days.
"It was not logical to involve the Revolutionary Guards and Basij forces in another country while the army of that country was just a spectator," Salami said in a press conference published by Iranian media.
The Iranian confessions, made by its most prominent military commander, included their admission of their inability to help, adding: “We wanted to help, but they closed all roads to Syria.”
Salami pointed out that his forces were the last to withdraw from Syria.
According to several statements by Iranian leaders, the withdrawal from Syria was carried out in a humiliating manner under the supervision of the Aggression Deterrence Forces.
The Syrian Revolutionary Armed Forces launched an attack from their stronghold in Idlib on November 27, and within 11 days liberated all of Syria. Assad fled abroad, while the regime's army, Hezbollah, the Revolutionary Guards, and the multinational Shiite militias were torn apart and withdrew in a humiliating manner from Syria.
