The occupation is expected to receive the bodies of four Israeli detainees today, Thursday, while it is preparing to release 628 Palestinian prisoners next Saturday, including 50 with life sentences, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange deal between the occupation army and the Palestinian resistance movement (Hamas).
The occupation army radio reported on Wednesday that Israel will release 628 Palestinian prisoners, including 50 serving life sentences, 47 released prisoners in the Wafa al-Ahrar deal who were re-arrested, and 445 detainees during the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
In return, Palestinian resistance factions will release the coffins of four Israeli prisoners in Gaza on Thursday, and will also release six living detainees next Saturday.
The Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, said on Wednesday that it would hand over the remains of Israeli hostage Oded Lifshitz tomorrow, Thursday.
The spokesman for the Mujahideen Brigades, Abu Bilal, also announced that the bodies of the Bebas family will be handed over tomorrow, Thursday, as part of the first phase of the prisoner exchange agreement with the resistance.
For his part, the military spokesman for the Al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Obeida, confirmed that "the bodies of the Bibas family and the body of the prisoner Oded Lifshitz will be handed over tomorrow, Thursday," adding that "the aforementioned prisoners were alive before their detention centers were deliberately bombed by the occupation's aircraft."
This comes after the Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported on Tuesday evening that the Prime Minister of the occupation government, Benjamin Netanyahu, had decided to officially begin the second phase of talks, but the authority confirmed that Netanyahu was interested in achieving several goals during the talks, namely disarming the Gaza Strip and eliminating the Hamas movement, without clarifying the details.
Coffin scene in Israel
The scene of the coffins carrying the bodies of four Israeli detainees will not be an ordinary scene, but rather an “iron sword” that will sever the image of victory promoted by the Prime Minister of the occupation, Benjamin Netanyahu, and leave a crack in the “achievements” of the occupation army in the war of extermination on the Gaza Strip, according to a report by the newspaper “Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.”
It may also constitute the most severe blow to the consciousness of Israeli society since the Al-Aqsa Flood operation carried out by the Palestinian resistance factions on October 7, 2023, after the limited manifestations of joy in the past weeks, with the return of the living detainees.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that Thursday would be a "painful day" for Israel as it receives the bodies of four Israelis held captive in Gaza, as part of implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
"Tomorrow (Thursday) will be a very difficult day for the State of Israel, a painful day, a day of mourning. We will bring home four of our beloved hostages who passed away," Netanyahu said, according to a statement from his office.
According to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, “Many Israelis, as well as Hebrew media outlets, may try to avoid and broadcast the scenes that reaffirm the extent of the failure, and also reflect that Netanyahu and members of his government have effectively abandoned the detainees despite the warnings.”
The first scenes of coffins will shake a large part of Israeli society - according to the newspaper - and will strike it like a thunderbolt, especially those who have demanded since the first day a deal to return all the detainees, but its impact will be felt by other segments, especially those who prefer revenge and oppose the deal, and even in other Israeli circles.
Israeli channels, including Channel 12, are moving towards refraining from showing the scenes that Hamas will broadcast, and will decide what to broadcast only in coordination with the families of the detainees. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority is also moving towards dealing sensitively with the matter, with calculated steps and scenes.
In any case, these scenes constitute an indictment of Netanyahu, his finance minister Bezalel Smotrich, former minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, and a group of other Israeli officials who contributed to obstructing and delaying the deal, as the detainees were killed during their captivity by Israeli shelling of sites in Gaza.
Trump plan
About two weeks after US President Donald Trump announced his plan to deport Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to other countries, the Israeli occupation state continues its efforts to implement the idea, despite the confirmation by several parties, including Israeli ones, of the impossibility of the success of the deportation, in addition to the rejection by the residents of the Strip, Palestinian leaders, and Arab countries of the idea.
Channel 12 reported on Wednesday that the Israeli security services have begun formulating a plan for what it described as "voluntary migration," which includes the stages that the occupation is planning behind the scenes, and the main challenges on the way to implementing the plan.
While the Hebrew media has recently intensified its focus on the issue since Trump's statements, it is worth noting that Israeli officials and ministers preceded the current US president with statements regarding genocide and displacement since the beginning of the current war that has been ongoing since October 7, 2023.
As the deportation plans have been on the Israeli agenda for some time, in addition to conferences held by settlement groups with the participation of ministers and Knesset members from the government coalition, this was confirmed several months ago.
The occupation government decided to adopt Trump's plan, and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his support for it, but so far it has not found countries willing to receive the Palestinians, while the Minister of Security has ordered investment in preparing a comprehensive plan. The occupation government is trying to find formulas that will avoid accusations of committing war crimes, and to show the matter as voluntary migration, not forced.
Israeli security estimates indicate that a portion of the Gaza Strip population opposes the idea of displacement, but many will want to emigrate. The optimal timing for implementing the plan, from the occupation’s point of view and according to its estimates, is during a time of war and the resumption of fighting, not during a ceasefire.
Trump's plan faces widespread Arab and Palestinian rejection. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stressed on Wednesday that Palestine is "not for sale," renewing his rejection of calls to displace the Palestinian people, while Arab countries confirm their rejection of displacement plans.
