Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Wednesday his acceptance of US President Donald Trump's offer for an unconditional ceasefire, following the first phone call between the two presidents since the infamous White House altercation.

In a post on the X platform, the Ukrainian president said he had a phone call with his American counterpart, adding that the conversation was positive and fruitful. He expressed his gratitude to Trump for the meeting of the two countries' delegations in the Saudi city of Jeddah.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the Jeddah meeting contributed significantly to the ceasefire negotiations, noting that his country and the United States agreed to work together to permanently end the war.

He stated that Trump briefed him on the details of his call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, noting that they discussed several preliminary steps to end the war.

He added that one of the first steps toward a complete end to the war would be to halt attacks on civilian infrastructure, including the energy sector, expressing his support for this measure and his country's readiness to implement it.

Zelensky also noted that Trump had proposed an unconditional ceasefire on the front line, and that Ukraine had agreed to this offer.

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump discussed a ceasefire with Russia in a phone call with Zelensky, with the US president saying, "We're on the right track."

President Trump discussed details of the ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine with Putin on Tuesday, in a call that lasted approximately two hours and 30 minutes.

Following the call, Trump announced on Truth Social that he and Putin had agreed to an immediate halt to attacks on energy facilities and infrastructure in both Ukraine and Russia.

The Kremlin explained that Putin welcomed Trump's proposal for Kyiv and Moscow to refrain from targeting energy infrastructure facilities for 30 days.

Since February 24, 2022, Russia has been launching a military attack on its neighbor, Ukraine, and has demanded that Kyiv abandon its membership in Western military entities as a condition for ending the offensive. Kyiv considers this an interference in its internal affairs.
