Local authorities in Taiz Governorate approved a 50% reduction in surgical fees at government hospitals on Wednesday for teachers in the governorate.
This came during a meeting chaired by Governor Nabil Shamsan, which included the directors of the health, education, finance, technical education, and planning offices, according to the government's Saba News Agency.
According to the agency, the decision includes teachers in the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, as well as faculty members at Taiz University.
In this context, the governor directed the formation of a specialized committee to develop an executive mechanism to ensure teachers have easy access to health services, with the possibility of paying fees in installments in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Governor Shamsan emphasized that providing healthcare to teachers is the least we can do to appreciate their educational role, noting the importance of supporting teachers amidst difficult economic conditions.
It's worth noting that this move comes after a series of protests and demonstrations in Taiz Governorate in recent weeks, calling for improved wages amid the deteriorating value of the local currency against foreign currencies.
