Houthi tampering in universities!
Our Writers| 21 December, 2024 - 6:44 PM
Universities located in Houthi areas have lost their identity during the era of the militias, their presence has deviated, their systems and regulations have changed, their message has changed, and their sanctities have been violated. They are no longer centers for building generations, a home for creating minds, or strategic institutions that issue knowledge and enlightenment.
Universities have become a stage for sectarian chaos, in which all methods of ignorance, sectarianism, arbitrariness, violation of laws, waste of energies and management of their affairs are practiced with the mentality of militias, which are entrenched in destroying the enlightenment of knowledge and turning them into sectarian seminaries to practice their rituals, establish their project in the curricula, force academics and students to embrace the sectarian image of education and loyalty to it, and attract everyone, professors and students, by enticement and intimidation, and adopt the criterion of loyalty to the group as a law to distinguish the loyal from the hostile, and a means to obtain job degrees and academic grades.
It has recently become common knowledge that the group has resorted to enticing university students to join its ranks - whether to the fronts, cultural courses, military training courses, or to perform its sectarian rituals and promote its dynastic ideas inside and outside the university - by setting a high percentage of grades in each subject in exchange for adherence to instructions and implementation of dictates, so that university education becomes loyalty and subservience more than academic achievement, and obtaining a university degree has become easily available as long as it passes through the window of serving the militias and immersing itself in their ranks.
Hence, we find that these universities have become a purely sectarian brand, and their academic policies are purely Houthi. The best evidence of this is their discussion of academic theses (Masters/PhD) that take the notebooks of Hussein al-Houthi, the speeches of Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the biography of Badr al-Din al-Houthi, the history of Imam al-Hadi, the tyrant Abdullah bin Hamza, and Zaid bin Ali, and all the symbols of the dynasty as titles for academic research and university theses. When a prestigious university like Sana’a University grants academic degrees for such topics, this is a scientific setback and a priestly cognitive downfall that works to obliterate the national republican identity, and reshapes a consciousness full of superstition, idolatry, and reactionism, and destroys the concept of higher education and uproots it.
The registration and acceptance criteria in these universities are no longer anything but a deceptive lie, especially in applied colleges such as medicine and engineering, where most of the seats go to the children of Houthi dead and wounded as free scholarships without them undergoing competitive tests, no matter how high their grades in high school do not qualify them to enter these colleges. This category of those enrolled are the eyes of the dynasty and are more loyal to its project within the universities. In the end, they obtain university degrees with high grades that exceed real students who deserve excellence, and the rest of the applicants are accommodated under the parallel system and private expenses, considering them a source of abundant income.
In this context, Al Houthi also worked to create free scholarships for students coming from remote governorates such as Al Mahrah, Shabwa and Abyan, to use them as messengers to promote his ideas in their areas later. This means that universities are used as a hidden means to attract new followers and supporters at the expense of gaining knowledge and building a future rigged with reactionary beliefs and an alien culture that disintegrates the fabric of society and changes its identity ideologically.
