Hamas called on Wednesday on Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims to participate in a global movement on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, rejecting US President Donald Trump’s plans. At the same time, sources revealed that Hamas had been given guarantees obligating Israel to implement the agreement in exchange for a commitment to release the hostages.
The movement said in a statement: "We call on the masses of our people, our Arab and Islamic nation, and the free people of the world, to go out in solidarity marches and events in cities and squares around the world, rejecting the plans to displace our Palestinian people from their land."
She added: "Let the coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday be a global movement against the forced displacement and deportation plans called for by the occupation and its supporters."
Hamas stressed that these activities are “in support of and endorsement of his fixed and legitimate rights to defend his land, foremost among which is his right to freedom, independence, self-determination, and liberation from the occupation.”
The movement appreciated the international positions in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Trump's plan for Gaza was widely rejected by Palestinians, Arabs and the international community, while it was met with great praise at the political level in Israel, including various trends.
Since last January, US President Donald Trump began talking about his plans to displace the people of Gaza to Egypt and Jordan, and spoke of his country’s intention to seize Gaza after displacing the Palestinians from it.
Brokers' guarantees
In the same context, the newspaper "Asharq Al-Awsat" quoted Hamas movement sources in Gaza on Wednesday, saying that "the mediators offered guarantees that Israel would abide by the ceasefire agreement and begin real negotiations for the second phase."
The sources confirmed that "the atmosphere is encouraging," adding, "If the occupation adheres to the terms of the agreement, the process of handing over the hostages will take place on time without any problems." The Qassam Brigades announced that it would stop releasing prisoners until further notice.
The efforts of the two mediating countries, Egypt and Qatar, and other parties supporting them, such as Turkey and others, did not stop in trying to find solutions to prevent the collapse of the fragile truce in the Gaza Strip, after the media exchange and explicit threats not to adhere to the ceasefire.
The Hebrew newspaper Haaretz quoted a source as saying that he expects the US President's envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, to arrive in Tel Aviv, adding that the latter is ready to move forward with the current prisoner deal if the prisoners are released next Saturday.
Hamas accuses the Israeli side of not adhering to the first phase agreement, especially the humanitarian protocol related to the entry of tents, mobile homes, medical supplies and heavy equipment, which prompted it to announce the freezing of the process of handing over 3 kidnapped Israelis, which was supposed to take place next Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Israeli government and its security cabinet held a series of meetings and decided to resume the war if the resistance did not commit to releasing the hostages by Saturday afternoon.
In light of the escalation of the situation between Hamas and Israel, talks were held between the Qatari mediator and the leadership of the Palestinian movement in Doha, which led to it sending a delegation headed by Khalil Al-Hayya, who arrived in Cairo on Wednesday and began meetings with Egyptian officials, and following up on the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and the exchange of prisoners through the technical committees and the mediating brothers.
Results of Hamas meetings in Egypt
Hamas sources say that the meeting between Al-Hayya and senior officials in charge of the Palestinian file in the Egyptian intelligence service discussed several proposals related to confirming the continuation of the ceasefire and implementing all its stages, according to what was reported by Asharq Al-Awsat.
She pointed out that the Egyptian and Qatari mediators, during the meetings that took place in Doha and Cairo in succession, provided assurances to Hamas as guarantees of the continuity of the agreement, pushing towards its full implementation, and moving forward towards the second phase negotiations.
She pointed out that the guarantees include the gradual entry of mobile homes, tents and heavy equipment, prior to the handover of the three Israeli hostages, which is expected to be handed over next Saturday, noting that the mediators asked the Hamas leadership to complete the handover process on time.
The sources say that the position of the Hamas leadership regarding not handing over the three Israeli hostages is primarily linked to the occupation’s commitment to implementing the terms of the agreement, especially with regard to the humanitarian protocol, which is expected to happen starting Thursday. If this is adhered to, the process of handing over the hostages will take place on time without any problems.
The sources pointed out that the Hamas leadership asked the mediators to pressure the Israeli occupation to begin serious and real negotiations regarding the second phase, which the mediators confirmed that they are working on in cooperation with the United States of America, and they are also working with it to implement the current phase with all its provisions.
She explained that the meetings will continue on Wednesday between the Hamas delegation and the Egyptian and Qatari officials from the professional delegations present in Cairo that are following up on the implementation process in the presence of representatives from the administration of US President Donald Trump who are following up on the implementation of the agreement.
She said: "The movement's leadership or any of the resistance factions have no problem committing to the agreement and providing all possible flexibility in order to reach an agreement regarding the second phase, which ensures a complete end to the war and the reconstruction of the Strip."
On January 19, a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and a prisoner exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel went into effect. It includes three stages, each lasting 42 days. During the first, prisoners will be exchanged and humanitarian aid will be brought in, while negotiations will begin to start the second and third, with the mediation of Egypt and Qatar and the support of the United States.
Between October 7, 2023 and January 19, 2025, Israel, with American support, committed genocide in Gaza, leaving about 160,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 14,000 missing.
