The Sudanese army announced on Wednesday that it had regained control of several areas in the states of White Nile, Sennar and Blue Nile in the south of the country, after battles with the Rapid Support Forces.

Army spokesman Nabil Abdullah said in a statement that the Sudanese armed forces were able, "in a simultaneous and coordinated activity," to destroy the Rapid Support Forces in several areas in the states of White Nile, Sennar, and Blue Nile.

He explained that it "forcefully and powerfully recaptured" the cities of "Al-Dali and Al-Mazmum" in Sennar State, the areas of "Roro, Al-Qarbin and Qali" in Blue Nile State, and the areas of "Al-Tabun, Al-Jafrat, Al-Malisa and Abu Arif" in White Nile State.

With the army retaking the cities of Al-Dali and Al-Mazmum from the Rapid Support Forces, the entire Sennar State bordering South Sudan is under its control, with the Rapid Support Forces retaining small pockets in the White Nile and Blue Nile States.

In November 2024, the army was able to regain control of most of Sennar State and its capital, Singa, except for "Al-Dali and Al-Mazmum" at that time.

Until 17:40 GMT, the Rapid Support Forces have not issued a comment on the Sudanese army’s statement.

For weeks now, and at an accelerating pace, the areas of control of the Rapid Support Forces have begun to decrease in favor of the army in the states of Khartoum, Al-Jazeera, North Kordofan (central), and the White Nile. Developments in the states of Sennar and Blue Nile have increased the army’s progress in the ongoing battlefield.

In Khartoum State, which consists of three cities, the army now has complete control over the city of Bahri to the north, most parts of the city of Omdurman to the west, and 75 percent of the depth of the city of Khartoum, which is in the middle of the state and contains the presidential palace and the international airport, while the Rapid Support Forces are still in the neighborhoods east and south of the city.

Since April 2023, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been waging a war that has left more than 20,000 dead and about 15 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations and local authorities, while research by American universities estimated the number of dead at about 130,000.
