UN: 174 women and 322 children killed in Gaza in eight days
Gaza| 29 March, 2025 - 12:02 PM

The United Nations announced on Friday that 830 people were killed in the Gaza Strip, including 174 women and 322 children, and 1,787 others were injured between March 18 and 25.
This came in a statement by the Special Representative of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in Palestine, Maryse Guimon, during a press conference in Geneva, which she participated in via video link from the Jordanian capital, Amman.
The UN official warned of "the dire consequences for women and girls in Gaza of the collapse of the fragile ceasefire in the Strip."
It highlighted "horrific details" of the human losses in just eight days since Israel resumed its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.
"The period from March 18 to 25 saw the killing of 830 people, including 174 women and 322 children, and the injury of 1,787 others," Guimon said.
She pointed out that this "means the killing of 21 women and more than 40 children every day," stressing that this "is not collateral damage; it is a war in which women and children bear the brunt."
She stressed that "women and children constitute nearly 60 percent of the victims in the recent events in the Gaza Strip," noting that this is "horrific testimony to the indiscriminate nature of this violence."
Since resuming its genocide in Gaza on March 18, Israel has killed 896 Palestinians and injured 1,984 others, most of them children and women, according to a statement issued by the Gaza Ministry of Health on Friday morning.
The current Israeli escalation, which Tel Aviv claims is fully coordinated with Washington, represents the most significant violation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which began on January 19. Israel refrained from implementing the second phase after the first phase expired in early March.
With full American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 164,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 14,000 missing, amid massive destruction.
