Al Mahrah health authorities announce detection of first case of chickenpox in the governorate

Recording a case of chickenpox in Al Mahrah

Health authorities in Al Mahrah Governorate, eastern Yemen, announced on Saturday the detection of the first case of chickenpox in the governorate.

According to the Al Mahrah Media Center, a specialized medical team from the Epidemiological Surveillance and Rapid Response Department of the Health and Population Office in the governorate went to Nishtun Port to assess the case of chickenpox after receiving a report from the security services and the local authority in the governorate.

The team, which includes the Director of the Epidemiological Surveillance Department, Dr. Salah Badr, the Director of the Ports Health and Quarantines Department, Adel Al-Moallem, and the Rapid Response Team in Al-Ghaydah Directorate, accompanied by the Coast Guard Forces, reviewed the case, diagnosed it, and physically examined those who had contact with it.

The team confirmed that the case is stable and responding to treatment, which is reassuring regarding the health status. Physical examinations also showed that the contacts do not suffer from any symptoms or signs of chickenpox, and that the contacts are in good health.

Director of the Epidemiological Surveillance Department, Salah Badr, stressed the importance of vigilance and cooperation between all concerned parties to ensure the safety of society and limit the spread of diseases, noting that this cooperation contributes significantly to enhancing efforts aimed at protecting public health and combating epidemics.

The Health Office in the governorate also thanked the local authority and security services for their fruitful cooperation and provision of the necessary facilities to the medical teams and their great role in enhancing the efforts of health work to combat diseases and epidemics in the governorate.

Chickenpox affects many people around the world, and a number of elderly people die every year after being infected with the virus that causes this highly contagious disease.
