The Yemeni Coast Guard announced today, Wednesday, the seizure of a ship off the coast of Al Mahrah (eastern Yemen), carrying large quantities of smuggled medicines that are subject to legal restrictions.

The Authority said in a statement published on its Facebook page that the seized quantity, according to initial reports, amounted to about 93 parcels, equivalent to the load of two (two) trucks.

She added, "The investigation procedures with the smugglers are underway, and the seized items have been confiscated from the ship in cooperation with the relevant government agencies, in a step aimed at taking the necessary legal measures against those involved and preventing the recurrence of such operations."

The Coast Guard stated that smuggled medicines pose a “serious threat to public health, as they often do not meet medical specifications or enter the country illegally without health supervision, which can lead to serious consequences for patients.”

She pointed out that this operation comes within the framework of the Yemeni Coast Guard's efforts to combat smuggling and protect health and national security, as such drugs are sometimes used illegally, making them dangerous to individuals and society.

The Coast Guard Service confirmed its intention to continue pursuing smugglers and confronting any smuggling operations that may threaten the health of citizens or national security, according to available capabilities.
