Yemeni army forces announced on Friday that they had foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of drugs into Saudi Arabia, and had seized a smuggling cell in the Al Wadiah Triangle in the Al Abr area of Hadhramaut Governorate (eastern Yemen).

The armed forces' website, September Net, reported that members of the 23rd Mechanized Brigade arrested three smugglers in possession of 10 kilograms of the narcotic substance, Shabu. The drug was expertly hidden inside a bus belonging to the gang, which was attempting to smuggle the drugs through the Al-Wadiah border crossing.

The website quoted the commander of the 23rd Mechanized Brigade, Brigadier General Abdullah Muazab, as saying, "The discovery of the drugs hidden in innovative ways, including concealing them in the bus's fuel tank, demonstrates the high security awareness and efficiency of the brigade's personnel, who work with dedication to secure the international route, protect passengers, and combat all forms of smuggling, sabotage, and crime."

Brigadier General Moazab explained that the use of these innovative methods by smuggling gangs is a clear indication of the extent to which the brigade's personnel are cracking down on smuggling gangs.

He pointed out that this gang is considered one of the most dangerous drug trafficking and smuggling gangs, noting that the gang's arrest came after a thorough investigation and monitoring process.
