The Security Committee in Hadhramaut Governorate announced today, Thursday, its welcome of the decision of the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, to form a presidential committee to summarize the demands of the governorate, located in eastern Yemen, holding the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance responsible for the repeated power outages.
The local authority media in Hadhramaut reported that the governor, head of the security committee, Mabkhout bin Madi, chaired a meeting of the security committee in Mukalla today, which was devoted to discussing the latest developments in the governorate, and approved a mechanism to ensure the continued arrival of derivatives to service facilities.
The Security Committee said, "The increasing hours of power outages that caused citizens inconvenience are due to the lack of sufficient quantities of derivatives from PetroMasila Company."
She explained that all diesel-powered power stations are currently operating at capacity, but they do not cover the demand for energy, which has caused a stifling crisis in the electricity and water sectors and other services that touch the lives of citizens.
The Security Committee welcomed the decision of President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to form a committee of Hadrami people that includes political, military, religious and social figures with the aim of summarizing the demands of Hadrami people and submitting them to the political leadership for approval.
She stressed that the Masila Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (PetroMasila) should continue its work in supplying the governorate with fuel, and that the brothers in the plateau (tribal groups) should not object to these quantities.
The Hadhramaut Security Committee said, "If they have any comments on the PetroMasila Company, the Oil Company, the General Electricity Corporation, or the local authority in the governorate, they must submit them to the committee formed by the President, the Public Funds Prosecution, or the General Authority for Combating Corruption, in compliance with the frameworks of the state and its institutions."
On Tuesday, the Chairman of the Leadership Council directed the formation of a presidential committee to consider the demands of the people of Hadhramaut Governorate, and to submit proposals for its solution in accordance with the law, based on the commitments and understandings announced with the local authority and the political components in the governorate.
The Yemeni news agency "Saba" said that the directives come "based on the understandings announced during the recent presidential visit to Hadramout Governorate, and as an embodiment of national responsibility and the desire to involve all components in contributing to overcoming the repercussions of the current financial crisis in the governorate caused by the terrorist Houthi militia attacks on oil facilities and international shipping lines."
On Wednesday evening, Presidential Leadership Council member Faraj Al-Bahsani expressed his objection to the decision to form the committee, saying that “there is no point or benefit in forming committees to solve Hadhramaut’s problems in this way,” considering it “a dilution of the governorate’s issues and a waste of time, as well as a failure to confront them seriously.”
Al-Bahsani added via the "X" platform, "The solution lies in taking direct decisions by you to meet Hadramout's demands or calling for an emergency meeting of the members of the Presidential Leadership Council to discuss the crisis and stand before it seriously and firmly, so that the meeting issues decisions that resolve what is happening in the governorate. Otherwise, it will be of no use."
There is no point or benefit in forming committees to solve Hadhramaut’s problems in this way, Your Excellency President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi. This is considered a dilution of the governorate’s issues and a waste of time, as well as a failure to confront them seriously. A few days ago, the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance set up armed points in the Al-Hadhba area and prevented the passage of oil tankers coming from the PetroMasila Company, as part of an escalation to achieve Hadhramaut’s demands, according to what they said.
