University of Science under Houthi control in Sana'a
Local media reported that the Zainabiyat Battalion, led by "Insaf Al-Shami and Aisha Al-Shami," took control of the female students' dormitory at the University of Science and Technology for Girls, which is under Houthi control in Sana'a.
According to sources, the Houthi Zainabiyat forced 50 female students to leave the dormitory and the university, and expelled some of them on charges of trying to celebrate the anniversary of the September 26 Revolution and raising the republican flag.
This comes at a time when academic and human rights sources said that female students are subjected to continuous violations by the Houthi Zainabiyat, which have increased in severity since last September.
According to the sources, the Zainabiyat found national flags in the students’ belongings after they were searched, and they were punished by having their files stamped with a special stamp, which led to the students being expelled later.
The sources said that the medical students were arrested after being attacked by the Zainabiyat after they found national flag stickers in their private cars.
She reported that the female students had recently been subjected to physical and verbal assaults and threats of expulsion from Al-Shami and her Zainabiyat colleagues, which required intervention to stop the assaults and hold those involved accountable.
