Journalist Mohammed Al-Mayahy
On Friday, the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate condemned the kidnapping of journalist Mohammed Dabwan Al-Mayahy by the Houthi militia after raiding his home in Sana’a, and demanded his immediate release.
The union said in a statement that it "received a report from colleagues of journalist Mohammed Dabwan Al-Mayahy stating that he was kidnapped on Friday morning by the Houthi group after raiding his apartment and taking him and his personal devices to an unknown location."
While the union condemned this incident, it demanded "his immediate release and the return of his belongings."
She renewed her "rejection of the arrest campaign that targeted Al-Mayahy and a number of activists on the basis of their opinions and writings," calling on the de facto Houthi authority to "stop this repressive approach and not to restrict freedom of opinion and expression."
The union called on "all organizations concerned with freedom of opinion and expression to stand in solidarity with Al-Mayah and work to release him and all detainees."
The union also renewed its demand for the release of journalists who have been detained for a long time, namely Wahid Al-Sufi, Nabil Al-Sadawi, and Fahd Al-Arhabi, who are detained by the Houthi group, Ahmed Maher and Naseh Shaker, who are detained by the Transitional Council in Aden, and Mohammed Qaid Al-Maqri, who has been forcibly disappeared by Al-Qaeda in Hadhramaut.
