A prisoner from Al Dhale Governorate (southern Yemen) died days after his release from the prisons of the terrorist Houthi militia, as a result of torture and deliberate medical neglect in the second incident since the beginning of February.
Human rights sources reported yesterday, Tuesday, the death of prisoner "Jamal Ahmed Rawah Qaid Mohsen Al-Mahmoudi" 11 days after his release from the Central Security Prison in Sana'a, which is supervised by Houthi leader Abdul Qader Al-Murtada, who is on the US sanctions list.
The sources said that the militia released "Al-Mahmoudi" on February 7 while he was in critical health condition, and he died on Tuesday as a result of the torture and medical delay he was subjected to during his detention in the militia's prisons.
The militia had captured Al-Mahmoudi - who is from Al-Husha District in Al-Dhale Governorate - on January 12, 2020, according to the sources.
Al-Mahmoudi's death comes days after the death of prisoner Mohammed Ali Al-Naseem , who died in a similar incident a few days after his release from the prisons of the terrorist Houthi militia after his health deteriorated as a result of the physical torture and medical neglect he was subjected to in the Houthi prisons for five years.
Legal condemnation
For its part, the National Authority for Prisoners and Abductees condemned the "heinous crime" and said that it comes in the context of a series of serious human rights violations committed by the Houthi group against civilians.
"During his detention, the deceased suffered brutal torture and deliberate medical neglect, which led to the deterioration of his health and his death on February 18, 2025," it said in a statement.
The commission noted that it had documented cases of detainees dying as a result of torture in the group's prisons, indicating a systematic pattern of violations.
She stressed that "the continuation of these crimes without deterrence poses a serious threat to human rights and the rule of law in Yemen, and requires a firm stance from all concerned parties to put an end to these violations and ensure that they are not repeated."
The Commission called on the international community and local and international human rights organizations to take urgent action to stop these violations and hold their perpetrators accountable. It also called for providing the necessary support to the victims and their families, and working to release all those abducted and arbitrarily detained in the Houthi group’s prisons.
