Today, Tuesday, the Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, called on the European Union to take a decision similar to the American decision to classify the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization.

This came during his meeting with the Head of the European Union Mission to Yemen, Gabriel Munera Vinales, the ambassadors of Germany and France, and the Chargé d'Affaires of the Dutch Embassy, according to the Yemeni News Agency "Saba".

During the meeting, Al-Alimi briefed the European ambassadors on the developments in the national arena, and the European interventions required to support the Yemeni economy, and alleviate the humanitarian suffering exacerbated by the Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and maritime cargo ships.

The meeting touched on the US administration's decision to reclassify the Houthi militias as a foreign terrorist organization, stressing the importance of the international community joining such punitive measures as a peaceful option to dry up the sources of funding and arming the militias, and implement the relevant international legitimacy resolutions, especially Resolution 2216.

The Chairman of the Leadership Council reassured the humanitarian community that all measures will be taken in coordination with the international community to direct the requirements of terrorist classification towards its main objectives without harming vulnerable social groups, food imports and life-saving goods.

Al-Alimi called for drawing lessons from the disappointing experiences in dealing with the Houthi militias, and not relying on their misleading attempts regarding their terrorist ideology that destabilizes Yemen and international security and peace.

In a related context, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Shaye Al-Zindani, met on Tuesday with the ambassadors of the European Union, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden, according to the official agency.

The Minister discussed with the ambassadors the developments in the political, economic and security situations in our country, and the joint efforts to support the Yemeni government in providing public services and improving the living and economic conditions, in addition to reviewing the latest regional developments and efforts made to achieve peace.

Al-Zindani stressed the importance of continued European support for the Yemeni government in various fields, emphasizing the need to intensify international efforts to pressure the Houthi militias to stop their ongoing attacks, and to respond to regional and international efforts to achieve peace, security and stability in Yemen.

For their part, the European Union ambassadors renewed their support for any initiatives aimed at achieving a political solution in Yemen, stressing their countries' commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government in their efforts to achieve peace and stability and work to alleviate the humanitarian suffering facing the Yemeni people.
