The head of the United Nations Mission to support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA), General Michael Beary, renewed today, Friday, the mission's commitment to supporting the implementation of the Hodeidah Agreement and making every effort to achieve progress in peace and stability in the Red Sea-shore governorate, western Yemen.
This came in a statement following the conclusion of his week-long visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which aimed to enhance cooperation and promote the mission's objectives on the ground, according to the mission's media.
The statement said that General Perry held constructive discussions in Riyadh with Yemeni Foreign Minister Shaye al-Zindani and General Mohammed Ayda, Chairman of the Government Committee participating in the Redeployment Coordination Committee, in addition to senior Saudi military officials, and held talks with diplomatic representatives, including members of the United Nations Security Council.
The Head of Mission continued his contacts in Amman with representatives of Member States, including EU Ambassadors and their counterparts at the United Nations.
The statement added that during his meetings, Perry briefed the international community on the situation in Al Hudaydah Governorate and the progress made in implementing the mandate of the UN mission.
The statement explained that General Perry highlighted several critical initiatives, including efforts to promote women, peace and security, the implementation of quick-impact projects to support local communities, and ongoing work in the field of mine action, which remains vital to the protection of civilian populations.
He pointed out that the discussions also focused on providing updates on the main progress made by the UNMHA mission in Al Khawkhah district, reiterating the mission’s commitment to supporting the implementation of the Hodeidah Agreement and making every effort to achieve progress in peace and stability in the governorate.
