The Mokha Center for Studies warned of the seriousness of the living conditions in Yemen, noting that the country faces the risk of famine in light of the continued deterioration of the economic situation.
According to a recent research paper by the center titled “Political Alert: Yemenis on the Brink of a Major Famine,” the center indicated that the country could face a full-scale famine if the economic and political conditions continue to deteriorate.
According to international reports, about 17.4 million Yemenis suffer from severe food shortages and need urgent humanitarian aid. He considered that hunger has begun to spread throughout Yemen, including major cities that were witnessing relative stability, as a result of the interruption of salaries and the erosion of the purchasing power of the national currency.
The Mokha Center pointed out that the war that has been going on in the country for years has contributed to the destruction of the infrastructure and paralyzed the economy, pushing millions of Yemenis to the brink of poverty and hunger.
He said the crisis is worsening amid declining international and regional support, with aid from international organizations shrinking due to multiple global conflicts, including the Ukrainian crisis.

The center pointed out that the Houthis' repressive policies deliberately restrict the work of humanitarian organizations in the areas under their control, which has increased the complexity of the situation and has also limited the volume of relief interventions that were alleviating the severity of the crisis.
The Mokha Center warned of the need to intensify international efforts to support Yemen and prevent a catastrophic famine, and called on the legitimate government and the Houthi authorities (not recognized) to work to improve the living conditions of citizens.
The center also called for the need to establish sustainable humanitarian programs to alleviate the severity of the crisis and work to save Yemenis from a potential humanitarian disaster.
