The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research launched, on Monday, the process of evaluating the data submitted by the universities participating in the national classification of Yemeni public and private universities, which targets nine universities in three governorates: Aden, Hadhramaut, and Taiz.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education for the Educational Affairs Sector, Dr. Khaled Basalim, explained that work on the classification project began in 2018, through a joint initiative between the Ministry, Hadhramout University, and the Aoun Foundation for Development.
According to Saba News Agency, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the Aid Foundation as a supporting body for the project, in addition to organizing a series of meetings and workshops under the supervision of the Jordanian company "Al-Masa", which specializes in international tests, with the aim of building a qualified cadre to implement the national classification process.
Dr. Basalim pointed out that the project faced challenges and difficulties during the past years, but it reached the stage of actual implementation with the formation of higher committees to supervise the process. He pointed out that the first round includes nine universities in the three governorates, during which field visits are carried out to verify the data provided by the universities, and the final results will be delivered by the end of next February.
He stressed that the ministry plans to launch the second session during the current year, which will target 30 public and private universities in various Yemeni governorates.
The Undersecretary said, "The national classification of universities represents an important mechanism for ranking higher education institutions according to specific standards and indicators, with the aim of enhancing development and competitiveness and raising the efficiency of academic and administrative performance."
Dr. Khaled Basalim, the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Scientific Research, Dr. Ahmed Abdul Salam, and members of the classification committee, launched the first phase of classification in four universities in the interim capital, Aden, including the University of Aden, the University of the Holy Quran, the University of Justice, in addition to the University of Science and Technology. The forms for the classification process were also distributed to these universities to ensure transparency and accuracy in the evaluation.
