Champions League: Round of 16 draw brings Madrid derby, German clash

The draw for the Champions League round of 16 resulted in a Madrid derby and a German clash, while Paris Saint-Germain will face Liverpool.

The draw for the round of 16 of the 2024-2025 Champions League season was held on Friday at the headquarters of the European Football Association in the Swiss city of Nyon.

Eight teams qualified directly from the league stage of the new tournament system, which included 36 teams, to the round of sixteen, in addition to eight teams from the play-off stage that ended on Wednesday.

The draw resulted in Club Brugge of Belgium facing Aston Villa of England, Borussia Dortmund of Germany facing Lille of France, Real Madrid of Spain facing Atletico Madrid of Spain, and Bayern Munich of Germany facing Bayer Leverkusen of Germany.

PSV Eindhoven will play against Arsenal, Feyenoord will play against Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain will play against Liverpool, and Benfica will play against Barcelona.

The first leg matches will be held on the 4th and 5th of March at the stadiums of the teams mentioned above, while the second leg matches will be held on the 11th and 12th of the same month.

The draw for the quarter-finals resulted in the winner of Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool facing the winner of Club Brugge and Aston Villa, while the winner of the Eindhoven and Arsenal match will face the winner of the Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid match.

The winner of the Benfica-Barcelona match will meet the winner of the Borussia Dortmund-Lille match, and the winner of the Bayern Munich-Leverkusen match will meet the winner of the Feyenoord-Inter match.

The first leg matches will be held at the stadiums of the winning team from the first match on one of the days of April 8th and 9th, while the second leg matches will be held on April 15th and 16th.
