Borussia Dortmund overcame Sporting on Wednesday to qualify for the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
A goalless draw dominated the result of the match between Borussia Dortmund of Germany and its guest Sporting of Portugal in the second leg of the play-off qualifying for the round of 16 of the Champions League.
Sporting arrived in Germany with little hope of progressing after losing the first leg. The Portuguese club did not show anything to suggest they were trying to turn the result around.
Dortmund's Ciro Guirassy, the Champions League's top scorer, missed a second-half penalty and Emre Can had a goal ruled out for offside for the home side as the Germans posed a constant attacking threat but lacked accuracy.
This result was in the interest of the German team, which benefited from its 3-0 win in the first leg in Lisbon to advance to the round of 16 of the most prestigious European Cup with a score of (3-0) in the aggregate of the first and second leg matches.
Dortmund have thus reached the Champions League round of 16 for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.
