Liverpool continued to soar at the top of the table with a win over Newcastle, while second-placed Arsenal stumbled against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday in the 27th round of the English Premier League.

Liverpool beat Newcastle 2-0, with Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai scoring 11 goals and Argentine Alexis Mac Allister scoring 63 goals for the Reds.

Liverpool's tally now stands at 67 points, while Newcastle's tally stands at 44 points, in sixth place.

By providing the decisive pass for the second goal, Egyptian star Mohamed Salah became the first player to participate in 42 goals after 28 matches in one season of the English Premier League.

In turn, Szoboszlai scored in two consecutive matches for the first time with Liverpool in all competitions, and he also scored 7 goals in 36 matches he played with Liverpool in all competitions this season, after scoring 7 goals in 45 matches with the Reds last season.

Arsenal stumble again

Arsenal's slim title hopes were dented despite their dominance at Nottingham Forest at the City Ground as the Premier League's second- and third-placed sides played out a goalless draw.

Arsenal were 11 points behind leaders Liverpool before facing Forest in midweek, but their failure to win on Sunday left them well off the pace.

Forest remained six points behind Arsenal in third place, keeping alive their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League, taking their tally to 48 points despite spending most of the match defending their goal.

Arsenal failed to score for the second game in a row after losing at home to West Ham United at the weekend, while Forest have won just once in their last five league games.
