Israeli warplanes targeted Beirut's southern suburbs on Friday for the first time since a ceasefire agreement was reached between Lebanon and Israel last November. Israel linked the attacks to rocket fire from the south, which Hezbollah denied any involvement in and affirmed its commitment to the ceasefire.

The Israeli military said its air force attacked a Hezbollah drone storage facility in the southern suburbs. In a statement, it added that the morning's rocket fire toward the Upper Galilee constitutes a flagrant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon and a direct threat to Israelis.

The Israeli army vowed that it would continue to work to eliminate any threat to Israel.

For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened further escalation with Lebanon, saying that anyone who has not yet grasped the new situation in Lebanon should understand this and understand Israel's resolve through what happened today.

He added on his X platform account that the equation has changed and that Israel will not allow any fire on its towns, no matter what. He noted that Israel will continue to enforce the ceasefire by force, attack any location in Lebanon that threatens its territory, and ensure the safe return of all its residents in the north to their homes.

The Israeli attack on the suburb was preceded by three warning airstrikes on the building, prompting residents of the targeted area to hastily leave. Schools and educational institutions in the area were also closed after the Ministry of Education issued a decision to close them due to Israeli threats.

Separately, the Lebanese Ministry of Health said that five people were killed and 18 others were injured in two Israeli airstrikes on the town of Kfar Tibnit and the surrounding area of the town of Yahmar al-Shaqif in the south of the country.

In contrast, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Friday that the Lebanese government must enforce the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah on its side of the border, or Israel will continue launching attacks.

"I send a clear message to the Lebanese government: If you do not enforce the ceasefire agreement, we will," he said in a statement.

Israel continues its aggression against areas in southern Lebanon under the pretext of attacking Hezbollah targets, despite the ceasefire agreement in effect since November 27, 2024.

Israel reneged on its commitment to complete its withdrawal from southern Lebanon by February 18, in violation of the agreement. Instead, it implemented a partial withdrawal while continuing to occupy five Lebanese hills within the areas it occupied during the last war.
