A military source in the Sudanese army said that the army and supporting forces completed their control over the city of Khartoum Bahri on Wednesday, and that only pockets remained in the southwestern part of the city, while the Rapid Support Forces announced the killing of a senior commander in its ranks yesterday, Tuesday.

In a statement to Al Jazeera, the source confirmed that they are working with the relevant authorities to secure the return of civilians to their homes as soon as possible.

The army has made progress in new locations over the past two days in the areas of East Khartoum, Khartoum Bahri and East Nile, which it surrounds from the eastern countryside.

This development comes a few days after the lifting of the siege on the General Command in central Khartoum, the Signal Corps, and a headquarters affiliated with the Intelligence Service located nearby in Khartoum Bahri, so that the army can begin implementing the third phase of the military operation that it launched on September 26.

On the other hand, the military media of the 6th Division in Al-Fasher, the capital of Darfur, said in a statement that the Sudanese army's warplanes launched air strikes on the strongholds of the Rapid Support Forces in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Rapid Support Commander Killed

Meanwhile, Omran Abdullah, advisor to the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, announced the killing of field commander Rahmatullah Al-Mahdi, known as "Jalha", yesterday, Tuesday, without specifying the circumstances and place of his death.

Sudan's Rapid Support Forces announced on Tuesday the killing of "Jalha" and his brother, amid conflicting reports about how they were killed, but identical sources reported that he was killed in an airstrike east of the capital, Khartoum, by a drone that targeted a convoy of cars in the Wadi Al-Akhdar area in the East Nile locality.

Jalha heads the so-called "Brave People of Kordofan" movement, which was established in 2020. The movement has been active in several areas in West Kordofan State, and most of its members belong to the Misseriya tribe. Jalha joined the Rapid Support Forces in September 2023.

The field commander was known for constantly posting videos on social media platforms in which he threatened to inflict defeats on those he called "remnants."

Sources indicated that the East Nile region is witnessing violent clashes between the Misseriya and the Mahriya (the tribe of the Rapid Support Forces Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo "Hemeti") over the killing of Jalha, and spoke of publications from the Misseriya threatening to avenge Jalha's killing.
